Sustainable choices and circular economy thinking come to life in Finland Pavilion’s VIP Lounge, the “Finland Majlis”. A leader in Finnish know-how, quality and industrial innovation, Finnish family-owned company Isku, provides the furniture solutions to Finland Pavilion’s VIP Lounge. Isku is an active developer and forerunner of environmentally friendly production and sustainable solutions, fostering a circular economy mindset and thinking carefully through the entire lifecycle of each of its products.
The 500 m2 VIP area, designed and furnished by Isku with flexible furniture, consists of:
In creating the furniture solutions for the VIP Lounge of the Finland Pavilion, Isku prefers environmentally sustainable materials sourced in Finland and has a strong emphasis on minimising the energy consumption and the volume of waste generated during the entire production chain up until the recycling of products at the end of their lifecycle. The design is inspired by Finnish forests and pure raw materials honouring the environmental and social responsibility.
Sustainability is reflected throughout the entire life cycle of Isku products. Isku uses the surplus material from production of one product as the raw material for another. This is, for example, how the award-winning Kivikko seat was originally created. The seat was awarded as the Best Sustainable/Eco-friendly product in the education sector in the GESS Education Awards 2019 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Kivikko has also been awarded the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. Isku’s Still and Step+ are the world’s first office chairs with M1 classification. The M1 classification proves that the products’ emissions into indoor air are demonstrably low.
Isku employs the certified tracking system for wood origin (PEFC) to ensure sustainable forestry. Our highly advanced production technology is represented for example by using thermoformable Grada plywood with no added formaldehyde containing glue. In the surface treatment of wood, Isku uses water-based and solvent-free surface treatment agents. The used upholstery fabrics do not contain harmful substances nor do the plastic parts of Isku products include phthalates. Packaging materials are recyclable and overall more than 97% of waste generated at Isku factories can be recycled as material or energy. After the World Expo, all the furniture in the VIP Lounge will be circulated further for re-use.
For Expo visitors, Isku quality means dependability, carefully considered design, professional craftsmanship and meticulously tested materials. The furniture solutions comply even with the strictest quality and safety requirements.
